Standards
Semantico employs a standards-based approach to the creation of online publishing platforms for its customers. By complying with the relevant standards, Semantico achieves the best possible forward and backward compatibility, and interoperability with all components of an organisation's web architecture.
With the growing body of international legislation (for example, the UK's Disability Discrimination Act and the United States Section 508) a requirement to ensure a site's accessibility is a key part of any large online project. Semantico's approach to accessibility provision ensures appropriate standards compliance. A significant consequence of a standards-based approach to web page design using XHTML and CSS (cascading style sheets) is that all pages within a product web site will be usable with any web browser software, regardless of the media device used. With these standards we can be assured that the sites will continue to work correctly with no further modification as newer software is released.
We have been developing websites using Unicode technologies since before the formal acceptance of Unicode 1.0 as an international standard. Because of our considerable experience with Unicode technologies we are able to offer sophisticated solutions to the search, retrieval and display issues arising in this area.
Finally, because of our publishing experience, Semantico understands the importance of the linking of bibliographic items and have built in support for OpenURL to SAMS and SIPP. In addition, we adopt best practice for persistent URI modelling.
